The English for Nursing course prepares students with the English language skills they need to study in a specific nursing course and excel in the Australian health care profession. Students will also gain confidence and skills in applying the English language to their higher education studies.

Course

Carrick’s English for Nursing program is specifically designed to give students the English language skills they need to be successful in the health industry. Students will learn from real-life examples of reading and listening as well as authentic writing and speaking tasks. Experienced teachers assist students to gain a thorough understanding and knowledge of the nursing profession, expectations and assessment methods of western health systems and cultures.

Carrick’s English for Nursing program has the added advantage of preparing students to pursue certificates, diplomas and degrees in the nursing profession. Students who successfully complete Carrick’s English for Nursing are equipped with the skills required to gain entry into many of Australia’s leading Australian universities.

Assessment

Carrick’s English for Nursing assessment tasks prepare students for the assessment requirements of their future course of study as well as the profession. Students are assessed regularly and provided with feedback on their progress. Tasks include journal writing, oral presentations, summarising and note-taking, communication skills, essay writing, research projects and tests.

Materials

Teachers in Carrick’s English for Nursing course use health-care language learning activities in a practical and interactive classroom setting. They use materials that are both informative and relevant to the students’ future needs, such as real-life listening and reading, communication activities, DVDs and multimedia.
