General English students are encouraged to develop their basic knowledge of the English language and the skills needed to use English in a global environment. Carrick teachers use examination and practical communication activities to prepare students to use the English language in real world situations.
Carrick's General English program offers six levels of English, from beginner to advanced, with each level generally running for 12 weeks. Each level is specifically designed to take students one step closer to their goal of being fluent in English. Students' individual English level is assessed when they enrol, ensuring that they are placed at the correct level.
Carrick offers its General English students a range of classes and activities so they can tailor a course to their needs and learning style. General English students also have the option to study an elective of their choice. Electives may include grammar, study skills, Australian idioms and slang, multimedia and more.
Carrick's students speak directly to their teachers, who develop a plan to improve their level of English. Our qualified teachers regularly assess each student's English language skills to ensure they are on track to achieve their goals. Students have regular ongoing assessment in the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Teachers in Carrick's General English Program use resources that are both informative and engaging. All materials are up-to-date, relevant and include real-life listening and reading, communication activities, DVDs and multimedia.

"My name is Diana and I am working at Central Station in Sydney, Australia. I work after class from Monday to Friday after 2:00pm. The cleaning job helps me financially and also helps me practice my English. I enjoy my English classes and would recommend Carrick to other students wanting to come and study English."
