NEWS FROM CARRICK JOBS AND CAREERS

Phung's Story

my name is Phung Minh Nguyen, from Vietnam. I am currently studying Hospitality Management in Operations Diploma stage 4 at Carrick Institute of Education, Sydney.

I chose Carrick because one of my friends told me about the good service here not just the lecture and that is true.

They have Student Association, Student Service department which assists us in overseas student’s life such as accommodation, welfare, study, cultural adjustment as well as personal issues, especially the English Language Department conducts free support English classes for those English is the second language.

Besides that, there are a lot of events, seminars about the job, introducing how to apply for TRA by ourselves instead of paying a huge fee for agent. Among those I like Carrick Jobs and Careers the best as they are so helpful assisting students to find job opportunities in the industry.

As the student started living in the diversity country like Australia, I know how hard to find a job in the prestigious places like Quay (3-hat-restaurant) or Lotus (1-hat-restaurant) without a recommendation from Carrick. All new jobs are kept updating in Carrick email and on notice board in all campus with clear information.

I truly enjoy working at Quay, one of the best fine dining restaurants in Sydney. I am doing food preparations for the larder, pastry and some times main course sections as well as serving entrees and dessert during service time. In addition, I have been offering full-time job as a Commis Chef in Lotus, 1-hat-restaurant at Pott Points.
I would like to especially thank Natalie Lee for her support me in this excellent opportunity in my career.

Do not wait until you graduate for a dream job, Carrick Jobs and Careers is there to assist you with efficient and prompt service quality.

Carrick and The City of Melbourne Couch

Carrick in conjunction with the City of Melbourne held a ‘Working in Australia seminar’ on 23 October for international students living in Melbourne.

The seminar addressed how to get the skills to be job ready, student rights in the workplace, resume writing and interview preparation. The seminar was conducted by Carrick Melbourne Campus Director, Adriana Del Mastro with expert advice from Director of Human Resources, Bianca Witkin and the Salvation Army.

The seminar was held at The Couch, a City of Melbourne run international student centre on Bourke St.

Carrick has a collaborative partnership with the City of Melbourne and held the seminar to inform international students about exploitation in the workplace and developing the skills necessary to find good jobs.

If you missed out on the seminar at The Couch and would like more information on being job ready and your rights in the workplace, click here to contact the Carrick Jobs and Careers team.
