Queens of Carrick get active in Adelaide

Through Carrick’s corporate social responsibility arm, Carrick Community Care, students and staff alike have the opportunity to support the community and each other in activities such as Blaze Aid and the Be Active Corporate Cup 2009 in Adelaide.

The team at Carrick Adelaide are getting involved in a Be Active event to get staff more active! Be Active is a South Australian message established by the State Government to get more South Australians more active, more often.

The Be Active Corporate Cup 2009 is a team event held once a fortnight over 16 weeks.  Participants walk or run and staff times are recorded and fitness/improvement calculated.  The team gains points for how much they improve so each participant doesn’t need to be a fast runner to do well.  There are 800 teams of 7 team members participating, and every second Wednesday and a sea of corporate t-shirts can be found running around the River Torrens every second Wednesday.

The Carrick team, ‘The Queens of Carrick’ are participating in the 4.5 km run around the River Torrens and consists of 6 members, namely:

Jane Mitchell, Campus Director
Tina Beltsos, Head of English Language
Melissa Matthews, Area Manager
Lynn Dawes, Admissions Coordinator
Rose Salvemini, Receptionist
Liza Georgiou, Vocational Trainer – Hairdressing

Tina Beltsos is leading the field with 122 points, followed by Melissa Matthews at 98.  Fastest run time is currently held by Jane Mitchell at 27.30 minutes, with Melissa Matthews runner up at 29.43 minutes.  There are two more timed runs to go and will finish with a fun run where everyone starts together on 11 November.

From Carrick campuses everywhere good luck Queens of Carrick!
