Carrick Sydney working hand in hand with industry
Carrick Education Sydney (Carrick) held its inaugural industry partnership forum last Monday afternoon, hosted by Catherine Carrick, Founder and Managing Director of Carrick. The forum was held to reinforce Carrick’s commitment to working with industry to create quality job ready graduates.
Guests, including numerous industry partners from small café owners to fine dining restaurants, were treated to a day of networking and a lunch prepared and presented by Carrick students and staff.
Carrick’s valued partners employ Carrick students in ‘work based training programs’ to enhance their education and training. Carrick Industry partners recognise that having a close involvement with students’ learning means their qualifications will reflect current industry standards and expectations.
One attendee, Amit Chhetri, a recent Carrick graduate with an Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management is now manager of Tomatillo: Mexican Grill, a large American owned franchise.
Amit Chhetri’s story is a fantastic example of the importance of Carrick and industry working together. Amit honed his craft through his work placement training at Tomatillo where he could develop his practical cooking skills in a real life working environment. Amit is now going further with his qualifications and will start his Bachelor of Business (Hospitality and Tourism Management) with Carrick in July.
Catherine Carrick stated the importance of industry partnerships to the well rounded education of students. “Study can take you so far and the experience in the kitchen really cements what students have learnt in the classroom” Catherine said.
Carrick is continually developing contacts within the hospitality industry so students can complete the integral practical experience hospitality qualifications require.
The forum was held at Carrick’s Cleveland Street campus.
