Carrick walks for harmony
Colour, costume and celebration were the order of the day in Melbourne on Sunday. The State Government initiative “Walk for Harmony” attracted over 5000 participants including a few dragons and many national costumes. Over 230 community groups walked from Carlton Gardens to Federation Square to showcase that Melbourne is a diverse and vibrant city that supports multiculturalism.
International music and dance brightened the grey skies in celebration of the city’s multiculturalism and Carrick showed its support by handing out water and balloons to the walkers. Purple balloons were dotted throughout the crowd as Carrick walked along the thousands of participants to show support for the cause.
The Walk for Harmony encouraged togetherness in spite of the recent attacks in Melbourne and the message from Premier, John Brumby to Victoria was “Reject racism in whatever form it takes” The Premier also took the opportunity to introduce a round the clock support network for international students studying in Victoria.
Carrick’s number one priority is the safety of students and Carrick’s Student Services department ensures that students have all the necessary information and support for staying safe in the city.
